GRD Club Suggestions

Ok so far ive gotten a lot of feedback. Ill keep it coming as i get it.

Things we could do as a club:
-tour print shops
--have someone teach us how to set prints
-have a art lawyer come talk to us
-- copyright laws
--contracts
--any protection for freelance projects
-get someone to come in and talk about how to set up portfolios for graduation
-have designers come in to show us work and talk
-collectively go to gallery openings or at least post cool art shows going on around town
-pin up shows for just our department
-work on class projects with other departments ie. identity project, use a photographer, have someone in textiles make a pattern or fabric, etc.
-paper museum
-have a site/data where we can constantly upload fonts/tutorials/etc for each other to use
-feature a designer a month on the website/blog (I wouldnt mind being in charge of this at all)

Things we could buy as a club:
-light box
-software
-light table
-coil binder
-saddle stitch binder
-screen printing materials
-have a library of books
-a web site for the club to link to GSU
-helping student pay for costs to enter in shows/competitions

What we would need:
a space to keep our materials, a closet or something.

So a lot of that could factor in the costs for them to possibly give us more money. We have to give as many proposals as possible. I hear GSU is very stingy with club money. We could also make it sound like (depending on who we are talking to about this) that the graphic design department is key to GSU and the identity of the school. We have had several designers graduate and current who have done work for GSU sports, individual schools of study, mailers, etc. Our academic achievements are seen more around campus than any other department at school. We should be given a good amount of money.

Ardens Garden Detox

Well I decided to blog about this experience. For those of you who care to read or not. I think I am blogging for personal satisfaction. Well this crazy detox business started yesterday curious about a 4 shot wheat grass/ginger/cranberry/lemon thing one of my regulars rants and raves about. So I dragged my boyfriend into the shop and sat down for the shots. Preparing, I noticed the two day detox on the wall. The helpful clerk told us all about it and we decided to de-toxin our bodies! ps. I have never done anything like this, no diets ever, and I even roll my eyes at people who do this sort of thing....... figures..

Today was the first of the two days. I will give a more time by time update as the night progresses as well as tomorrow and if i survive! I think i just want to see if I have the discipline. So I have to drink two gallons over the two days (8 oz each hour) of a distilled water/grapefruit/lemon/orange juice combination and as much water as I want.

5:12pm: This is not as bad as I thought it would be, It is interesting that each time I begin to get hungry its time again to drink and I fill back up again. I also am starting to get back pains. The same type of back pains I get when I finish a deep-tissue massage. Is this the juice releasing toxins!! or is it my need for a back rub?

8:29pm: So i just finished my 8:00 "dinner" and I was kinda crossing my fingers that my boyfriend broke and ate some solid food so I can break too! I was thinking about all the food I could eat in my kitchen on the drive home from class... damn its only 8:30....

10:34pm: ughh i want chips.. this is a lot harder than i thought!

SECOND DAY

9:51am: I cheated a little last night an sunk a little snack... but I am still rolling on... I had the best sleep ever last night but now all of the main muscles in my body are sore.

So tweet wants me to re design their site... their site is beautiful as is.. SO challenge. With about 20 sketches later and lots of days thinking about it... the idea im going with just came to me. This is it. any suggestions? I dont think my strength is in web soo just any suggestions with the design is helpful.

Ok so this is what you see when you first go to the site. Each "card" (grabbed this off of their original site) is a roll-over image. When you roll over it the image will glow, you click, and flash takes over the card you clicked on by sliding out and on top of the stack. pretend we clicked on "portfolio".

**still have to think of how to label each card...

So you click on the card it slides over and on top of the others and a white overlay comes in from the right. and stops before the logo. (see below)
The white square on the left will appear (filled with thumbnails images of work) with the first client appearing. the brown boxes on the right are always filled with thumbnails of multiple pieces of work ie. logo, business cards, menus, etc.

Ok so this is the direction I am going with. Since I am creating a Strong Man paper toy, the front of my page will look like this and the back part will have the toy and instructions. I will add background textures and also make it look like the font has a texture as well. The toy will be perforated so its easy for those with arthritis to construct. This is the front, not sure exactly what to do with the warning part quite yet but... anyway. Any suggestions?

Ok so to get around town these lovely trolleys await you. I believe these are the oldest form of public transportation still in use in this country (fact).

Ok so my dad and I's first stop at Robert Mondavi. We were finishing off in the tasting room. Like father like daughter... we drink.

I was venturing in the grapes at Robert Mondavi vineyard. Trying to prepare myself for drinking wine at 10am....

Me standing outside silver oak's vineyard! This was our last stop and by far the best wine! I ended up buying a bottle of the blend! Sorry guys I only have the pictures my dad took of me uploaded right now... will have more scenic stuff later...

Outside BV vineyard, they were not as welcoming here, no bells and whistles. Wine was good but they had two bottles that they do not sell retail for us to sample and man... Chrissy you would have loved them! Sooooo my dad and I splurged and bought em... so lots of wine buying..and drinking.

Skylift to the top of sterling vineyard tour! the view was amazing!! The picture doesnt do it justice, i believe i have some pictures on my camera of the view.

Ok so this was at the sterling vineyard in napa valley. The wines we sampled were ok, the best was the desert wine, and im not much for sweet wine... BUT I bought a bottle...

Well this is just one of many but I wanted to share with you China Town! This picture was taken 20min after I got off my flight! I took a ton of pictures to share sooo keep checking back

Ok im working on this girls logo for a event planning company... these are the ideas i came up with today.. still working on a few more to show her. what do you guys think so far before i send these off to her.

The first one is simple and clean (which is what she wants)
The second one is to the point. i was trying to mimic a table name tag for a seating chart sort-of-deal
The third i was trying to go for a more upscale kinda look and the three dots represent the past present and future... Im trying to figure out a way to show that better maybe a progression in the change of color or something not sure.

What does everyone think about these typefaces for the logo? I originally wanted to do something handwritten and then it developed more into a script font! I then thought (bottom one) that a mix of typefaces could be interesting to show that you can have this bottle of wine with a nice fancy meal or even enjoy it at a bbq in the backyard. well sailor jerry has inspired me to create my 13 month calender. his simple illustratioins pack so much techique... so my calender is going to be a tribute to him! my months images will be in sailor jerry inspired "flash" that represent the typeface for each month. will be doing all serif fonts and the 13th month will be the sailor jerry month with his original flash. I will also be trying to figure out how to make temporary tattoos to incorporate in the calender. everythign will be hand done since i hardly have ANY drawings in my porftolio.

i already started on two of the months illustrations and is a lot harder than i expected. so all future critiques are welcomed!

I am inspired by graphic designer blogs. I like to see what is going on in their minds, what is going on in their part of the world, and what interests them. Blogs are a major source of connecting to new artists or new techniques that ive never done/seen.
